Despite the fact that the new year has already kicked in and that 2018 is now a memory, it’s clear that 2018 was a fantastic year for games, with plenty of top-notch releases for people of all tastes to enjoy.

And given that Steam is the world’s leading digital store, it’s always interesting to discover which were the top-selling games on Valve’s store in 2018, something which the American company has recently revealed on its website.

Amongst these games (and this is something that should not come as a surprise) are Far Cry 5 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Both were tremendous hits for French video game company Ubisoft last year, with Far Cry 5 being Ubisoft’s second biggest launch ever, so it’s not surprising both these games also sold very well on Steam this year too.

Other new releases like Monster Hunter World, Jurassic World Evolution and Kingdom Come Deliverance were also amongst the best-selling games of 2018, while old stalwarts like Rocket League, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cities: Skylines are still among the leading games when it comes to sales on Steam.

It’s also worth noting that No Man’s Sky (which was originally released in 2016) made the list too, a game that despite suffering from a disastrous launch has gone from strength to strength thanks to a series of big patches Hello Games has put out over the years. And despite the disappointment Fallout 76 was this year, it’s interesting that the earlier Fallout 4 continues to hang in there too, and was one of Steam’s top-selling games in 2018.

Also, and despite the fact that it has been eclipsed by its rival Fortnite now, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds ended being one of the top-sellers on Steam last year as well.

Kudos, then, to all the devs behind these games, who definitely had something to celebrate last year, and here’s hoping that 2019 does turn out to be another fantastic year for gaming too.
