Although many gamers were disappointed when Ubisoft announced that no major Assassin’s Creed game would be released in 2016, at least the French company is launching a new franchise next year with For Honor, a game that’s being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind the original Assassin’s Creed game and its sequel.

For Honor appears to be a very different game to Ubisoft’s iconic Assassin’s Creed series judging by the Gamescom preview below though, as it mainly focuses on melee combat and will feature a single player campaign that can be played cooperatively in split-screen mode or online according to the game’s official website. Playing as a character from one of the game’s three factions (Vikings, Knights and Samurais), players will take part in large scale battles, duel big bosses and take over castles in the game’s medieval setting. And given the game’s original premise and gameplay, it is clear For Honor could prove to be one of the most interesting releases to come out next year.

Release date: February 14, 2017. Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
