This is because having the strongest Pokémon is necessary to capture and hold special locations known as “gyms”, where players’ Pokémon can fight each other.

But if roaming around your city is not your cup of tea and you would rather draw Pokémon to your location, you can still rely on the game’s “Lures” and “Incense” to get those Pokémon to come to you instead. But walking really is mandatory if you want to get the rarest, most powerful and legendary Pokémon in the game, and also to make eggs hatch, which provide you with new Pokémon and “Stardust”, which is necessary to evolve you existing Pokémon into stronger breeds that can really help you take over those gyms…
