metal-gear-solid-5Despite the fact that the Metal Gear Solid series of video games by Japanese designer Hideo Kojima is highly regarded by gamers and has been a big success over the years, it has also been controversial with the Metal Gear Solid games being accused of sexism on more than one occasion. For instance, Metal Gear Solid 4 allowed players to jiggle the breasts of the protagonist’s counsellor by shaking the console controller, and the latest Metal Gear Solid game came under fire in 2015 due to its portrayal of a character named Quiet (pictured).

Metal Gear Solid V’s Quiet character, apart from being a deadly sniper in the game, is also a scantily-clad lady with the typical video game sexualized physique, meant no doubt to please the sex-starved gamers amongst Metal Gear Solid V’s audience. And the fact that designer Kojima tweeted about a gropeable Quiet doll drew the ire of feminist crusader Anita Saarkesian, who chastised Kojima for his apparent sexism, even if Quiet is an able character who can perform her combat duties in Metal Gear Solid V as ably as the men can…
