Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake to get free VR mode, new gameplay trailer released

It’s clear that Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake is one of the most eagerly anticipated games of 2023. After all, not only were the remakes of the earlier Resident Evil 2 and 3 games pretty good (particularly that of the second game), but Resident Evil 4 does have a special place in the hearts of fans of the long-running survival horror series.

That is why expectations are sky-high for Capcom’s remake, which is slated to hit the shelves on March 23 this year, bar any unlikely delays, of course. The remake will bring back characters like Leon S. Kennedy, the series’ stalwart who’s on a mission to rescue the president’s daughter, who’s mysteriously disappeared in a creepy southern European location. There’s also Ada Wong, the sexy Asian heroine who’ll be joining Leon in this remade version of Resident Evil 4.

Also, lucky owners of Sony’s PlayStation VR2 headset will be able to experience a virtual reality version of the cult game, as Capcom recently announced that their Resident Evil 4 remake will be getting a free VR mode in a tweet (via IGN). This will be made available as a free DLC for owners of the game, although Capcom has not specified when Resident Evil fans will be able to experience their upcoming survival horror adventure in glorious VR.

Actually, Resident Evil 4’s VR mode might not be available at launch on March 23, taking into account that the previous game in the series (Resident Evil Village) recently got its VR mode despite having been released back in 2021 as IGN points out.

But it’s likely it’ll be worth the wait, as the original Resident Evil 4 game got a highly rated virtual reality version, while the remake will be running on Sony’s next-gen PSVR2 headset. Previous VR versions of Capcom’s game such as that for Resident Evil 7 were highly regarded too, but the fact this will be PSVR2-only should make for a more immersive (and terrifying) experience.

Sadly, as was the case with Resident Evil Village, Xbox Series X/S and PC players will be left out of the VR party, at least for now, although they will still be able to enjoy the standard version of the game, which as stated earlier launches on March 23.

Luckily, though, the game’s most recent trailer points to this being another fantastic Resident Evil remake from Capcom. The gameplay trailer above showcases the game’s third-person action, with Leon S. Kennedy battling all sorts of ungodly and terrifying enemies here. The original Resident Evil 4 game was renowned for its boss fights, and judging by the trailer this will likely be as epic and spectacular in the remake, where you’ll also take on a vicious cult as you attempt to rescue the president’s daughter in rural Spain. Also, familiar faces like Luis Sera and antagonist Major Krauser will feature in the remake.

What’s clear nonetheless is that Resident Evil fans, as well as many new to the Resident Evil series, will be looking forward to this remake, so it would be a great thing if this latest entry in the iconic survival horror series lives up to expectations when it launches next month.
