Without question, Rockstar’s latest GTA is one hell of a popular video game. And it’s not only that the game has sold a whopping 90 million copies to date, but GTA Online is such a cash cow for Rockstar these days that the idea of releasing more single player content for GTA V has likely been postponed indefinitely now.
But still, it’s strange to see a five year old game sell so well.
Also, the fact it recently managed to top the UK video game sales charts for the week ending on March 10 according to GfK Chart-Track (via PCGamesN) sure is stunning. Even more impressive is the fact that it managed to knock FIFA 18 off the top perch, as the FIFA series has traditionally been a strong seller over the years.
But there’s no stopping the GTA V juggernaut it seems, or perhaps the case is that only Rockstar themselves can do it… This is because as any gamer worth his salt knows the company is now gearing up to release Red Dead Redemption 2, a sequel to their 2010 cowboy hit which already is one of the most eagerly awaited games of 2018, and likely of all time too…
Red Dead Redemption 2 will also have an online component like GTA V, but it remains to be seen whether this will ever be as popular as GTA Online currently is. It also seems unlikely that the new Red Dead game will have GTA V’s staying power and sell as many copies as Rockstar’s latest GTA game.
Time will tell though, but for the time being it looks like GTA V is on course to becoming one of the most popular games of the year (again), and will likely continue breaking sales records in the near future.
