Kojima shoots down rumor he’s working on a new Silent Hill game

It’s clear Hideo Kojima is one of the best-known video game auteurs out there, even if his games have been controversial for some reason or another.

Metal Gear Solid V was accused of sexism, while Kojima’s most recent game Death Stranding was considered a masterwork by some and an utter load of crap by others… And even one of his cancelled games sparked controversy back in 2015.

That game was Silent Hills, a highly promising new entry in the Silent Hill franchise of survival horror games. It was to be a collaboration between Kojima and big-time movie director Guillermo del Toro, which sadly never was to be as Konami axed the project and got rid of Kojima in the process too.

A rumor has been brewing this year, though, that Kojima might actually be working on a new horror game, now that he’s done directing the likes of Norman Reedus in Death Stranding, and that game might be a Silent Hill sequel.

Kojima himself has recently shot down that rumor in an interview, as was reported on metro.co.uk. Speaking to Japanese website Livedoor, Kojima said it’s “completely false”, that he’s working on a new Silent Hill game.

And this makes perfect sense taking into account the way Kojima was ill-treated by Konami back in 2015, although the Japanese video game designer might be trying to throw off people here as Metro points out. So while the video game star’s statement has made the possibility that Kojima and his team might be working on a new Silent Hill game pretty unlikely, this cannot be ruled out completely right now.

Heck, maybe there’s a chance Kojima and Guillermo del Toro might even get to make Silent Hills someday, although most fans will likely be extremely surprised if this actually happened.

This is because Silent Hills was cancelled back in 2015, while Kojima also recently revealed that he had a major project cancelled, saying that he’s “pretty p***ed” about it, but admitting that “that’s the games industry for you”.

What this was, we might never know for sure, but at least Silent Hill fans can rest easy knowing that Konami does indeed intend to bring back the Silent Hill series as the company itself admitted early this year, which is something to look forward to no doubt even if a star like Hideo Kojima won’t likely be involved in the next Silent Hill game.
