New Assassin’s Creed game confirmed, is ‘looking good’ according to Ubisoft boss

Perhaps one of the most disappointing news that reached video game fans’ ears in 2016 is that Ubisoft would not be releasing an Assassin’s Creed game this year.

Actually, no new mainline game in the series would come this year, although the French company did release the pretty decent Assassin’s Creed Chronicles games earlier in 2016 and Assassin’s Creed fans will also be getting The Ezio Collection this month, which is a remastered edition of the great Assassin’s Creed II and the other two games featuring well-known series character Ezio Auditore.

Of course, those fond of the video game series will also get the chance to watch the Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender and Hollywood icon Marion Cotillard this Christmas, which is actually looking like it could be the first film to break the “video game movie curse”, and turn out to be a watchable film after all.

But still, those who love the video games might be longing for another major Assassin’s Creed game, and there’s certainly evidence that we might get one soon enough. During Ubisoft’s earnings call this November, company CEO Yves Guillemot said that “we are working hard on this game”, while CFO Alain Martinez also added that the game was “looking good”. And this is certainly good news for many Assassin’s Creed fans who feared that the franchise could have ended with 2015’s pretty good Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, especially after the debacle that Assassin’s Creed Unity was back in 2014.

This is not the case though, and now we know for sure that another Assassin’s Creed game is in the works, one which is rumoured to be set in ancient Egypt. But it is not clear whether the new Assassin’s Creed game will hit the shelves this year, as Ubisoft seems to have changed their development policy since Unity’s buggy release and now want to invest more time polishing its games before they hit the shelves.

So said a company developer last October, although it’s likely we won’t have to wait that long to play another Assassin’s Creed game , even if Ubisoft has found success this year with new IPs like the wildly popular The Division.

In the meantime, though, series fans can look forward to the promising Assassin’s Creed movie this December and the Ezio Collection remaster which hits the shelves this month, although hopefully the series renowned parkour gameplay and beautiful historical settings will return to consoles sooner rather than later.
