1. Sonic Mania
As soon as you see the title screen and the intro animation kicks in you know you’re in for something special, as Sonic Mania really was a fitting celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary. Honouring the classic Sonic games of the Sega Megadrive era, this offers high speed thrills and lets you play as Sonic, as well as secondary characters Tails and Knuckles.
And playing through the stages as Sonic, it’s cool to have Tails on hand to help out – seeing him interact with Sonic is great thanks to the cute animations and cool retro-style graphics. The boss fights at the end of each stage are also inspired (one even involves beating Dr. Eggman in a Tetris clone). The 90’s era soundtrack is also pitch perfect, making playing through classic stages like Green Hill Zone and other, entirely new ones a thrill in this great Sonic game.
Came out on: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch.
