Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is coming to PS4 and Xbox One

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a game many were looking forward to this year. But what was surely one of the most eagerly anticipated games of 2023 had something of a rough launch, with technical issues plaguing both the console and PC versions of the game.

It was particularly bad on PC, as players with even high-end machines not having a good experience, leading to quite a few dismal reviews on Steam at launch (the game’s current aggregate for all reviews is now “mixed”).

Things have improved since launch though, with developer Respawn games releasing a series of patches which improved the gameplay experience on both PC and consoles.

But another thing which may have had fans of the first Star Wars Jedi game (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order) upset is the fact that Survivor was a new-gen only game at launch, with no PS4 and Xbox One versions available. And especially given the fact that its predecessor launched on those platforms, plus the fact that there are more than 100 million PS4s in the wild, gamers and Star Wars fans were hoping Star Wars Jedi: Survivor would make it to PS4 at least.

Thankfully, though, Electronic Arts (EA for short) has answered their prayers and will in fact be bringing the game to last-gen machines, although it has not specified a release date for the port.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will hit the PS4 (and Xbox One, too).

So said EA boss Andrew Wilson during an earnings call earlier this month (via VG247), saying that demand from the community and the “strength of this legendary franchise” were the reasons behind this decision.

More likely is the fact that the game has exceeded expectations, with the game having millions of players as EA CEO Wilson had revealed back in May. The original game was also a hit, having sold millions of copies since launch.

The arrival of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on last-gen machines will surely be something to cheer for owners of these consoles who were looking forward to playing this sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, only to discover that it would only be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

It would be a great thing, though, if the PS4 and Xbox One port of this latest Star Wars game is solid at launch, and not plagued by the technical and performance issues Star Wars Jedi: Survivor had on new-gen consoles and PC on release, letting players enjoy protagonist Cal Kestis’ adventure in a galaxy far, far away without issues.
