Expectations were high last September as the latest Tomb Raider game hit shelves. After all, the Tomb Raider games are some of the most played and most loved ever, so it’s clear that fans expected a lot from the latest game to feature iconic heroine Lara Croft.
Thankfully, Shadow of the Tomb Raider turned out to be another great entry in the franchise, featuring the same winning mix of third-person action, cool platforming, good story and the series’ trademark tombs to explore. Actually, Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s tombs are some of the best yet seen in the series, turning the game into another epic Lara Croft adventure as we pointed out in our review. Also, the Mayan setting was a highlight here.
It’s a good thing, then, that the game is getting a new edition this fall. Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition will be launching on November 5 as Japanese publisher Square Enix recently revealed in a press release, and will do so on the same platforms the original game debuted on – that is PS4, Xbox One and PC (Steam).
Additionally, the game will also be available on Google’s Stadia at a later date in November, and could become one of the star attractions of Google’s Cloud gaming service. It remains to be seen, though, how well Shadow of the Tomb Raider will run on Google’s streaming service – hopefully players will get good frames rates and enjoy a smooth experience when playing Lara’s latest adventure on Stadia.
Aside from the base game and all the DLC released for it (which includes extra weapons, outfits and quests) this definitive edition of Shadow of the Tomb Raider also includes a new outfit for Lara, which those who own the game and its season pass can download for free.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider puts an end to the trilogy which began with the Tomb Raider reboot in 2013 and continued with 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, and it remains to be seen where Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics will be taking the series next – for the time being, though, it’s good news that one of the best Tomb Raider games to date is getting another edition this year.
