2. Negligee: Love Stories

Negligee: Love Stories by developer Dharker Studios features various stories with four different protagonists. One of these characters is Jasmin (as seen in the image above), a young woman who must choose between continuing her life as a stripper or move on, all as she receives a mysterious offer from her boss…

And Negligee was at the center of controversy back in September 2018 when Valve kicked off its “anything goes” policy on Steam. This allowed adult games to release on Steam in an unrestricted way, after having faced arbitrary censorship (as in House Party’s case).

However, countries worldwide responded by banning Negligee: Love Stories. The likes of Germany, Japan and Australia obviously did not sympathize with Valve’s decision of letting the adult-only visual novel release on Steam uncensored. And maybe rightly so, as aside from the explicit scenes featured in Jasmin’s story, Negligee also deals in “themes relating to abusive marriages and adultery”. But maybe Negligee: Love Stories’ banning in so many countries (28!) was something of an overreaction, as Steam did put an “Adult Only Sexual Content” filter in place for explicit games like these after all…
