Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was one of 2020’s best games. In a year in which many people were stuck at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this game let players live out their Viking fantasies in 9th century England and other places.
The game turned out to be a hit for Ubisoft and also one of the best entries in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, a video game franchise which has sold more than 100 million copies to date.
And given the game’s success it’s not surprising that Ubisoft has put out several expansions for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the last of these being The Siege of Paris, which as its title suggests is set during the Viking invasion of France.
Because while Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s story is rooted in history, the game does have supernatural elements, and there’s also the underlying Assassins vs Templars conflict going on, which is not exactly true to history either…
However, it seems Ubisoft is throwing away historical realism for the game’s next expansion (which is titled “Dawn of Ragnarok”) as the company’s description of it suggests.
“Eivor must embrace their destiny as Odin, the Norse god of Battle and Wisdom. The dwarven kingdom of Svartalfheim is crumbling, and amid the chaos, Odin’s beloved son, Baldr, has been taken prisoner by the unkillable fire giant, Surtr”, says Ubisoft of the expansion in a press release.
Going toe to toe with an “unkillable fire giant” sounds cool, but the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion will also let you “unleash new divine powers”. Plus, the game’s story will involve a rescue quest, and is set in “mythological world of contrasts” according to Ubisoft.
Which does sound pretty great, especially for those who can’t get enough of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Those yet to play the game, though, will be happy to know that there’s a way to get Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for free too…
This is because Ubisoft will give Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for free to those who purchase the expansion between December 13 and April 9, 2022. Getting the digital version of the expansion will grant you immediate access to the main game according to Ubisoft.
The Dawn of Ragnarok expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is coming out on March 10, 2022.
And judging by the action-packed trailer below, it surely looks like this could be an impressive expansion, so hopefully Ubisoft will get this right and deliver another great slice of content for one of 2020’s best games.
