2. Hitman

Although not everyone was pleased with the episodic release schedule of this Hitman outing, as it left players waiting for months to play the conclusion to developer IO Interactive’s game, the truth is that the wait was well worth it as each episode in this Hitman game was wonderfully detailed and expansive.

And each mission was brimming with possibilities, from a remote farm in Colorado to a high-tech hospital in Japan, and players could also use a variety of disguises such as a security guard uniform or a priest’s attire in order to get past security and reach their assassination targets. Each level was a murder sandbox in which players could kill their targets in numerous ways, making this year’s Hitman a triumphant return for protagonist Agent 47, and also one of the best games released on the Xbox One in 2016.
