5. Graphics & Sound

Thief’s locations such as this brothel are well done but unoriginal.

While Thief has better overall graphics quality, by virtue of being the newer game, Dishonored has superior art. Thief’s world is your standard medieval fantasy one, and while it looks pretty, it is not particularly original. On the other hand, Dishonored’s world sure has tons of personality. The city of Dunwall has some pretty original buildings such as a whiskey distillery that serves as a criminal den, for instance.

When it comes to sound, Dishonored’s soundscape adds to the atmosphere at every turn: the voices, sound effects and ambient sounds complement the action perfectly. Thief’s sound on the other hand, is all over the place at times. The music can be overpowering and some conversations between guards repeat incessantly, for instance. So Dishonored hits the magic button here.

WINNER: DISHONORED

Conclusion

While Thief is a good stealth game, it obviously falls short of greatness. Dishonored has the markings of a classic and is overall the better game. If you haven’t played it yet, then I encourage you to pick up a copy, now that it is going for a bargain price.

WINNER: DISHONORED
