Those on PS Plus can enjoy a new pair of games this month, as Sony recently revealed the free games for January 2020.
One of its offerings for the month is Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection, a compilation of three remastered games starring iconic video game hero Nathan Drake. These games are Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted: Among Thieves and Uncharted: Drake’s Deception.
These are some of the best action and adventure games ever released for consoles, and Drake’s Deception in particular is widely regarded as one of the top games to hit Sony’s PS3 console. This remaster for PS4 gives the game a nice visual upgrade as well as improved controls and gameplay mechanics.
The same is true for the two other Uncharted games which form part of The Nathan Drake Collection: the superb Among Thieves and Drake’s Fortune, the latter perhaps looking a bit dated these days, but still a good Indiana Jones-style romp featuring developer Naughty Dog’s usual storytelling flair.
A slight disappointment is that the games only include the single player campaigns and not the multiplayer, even if the single player was always the main attraction in the Uncharted games. Plus, The Nathan Drake Collection is arguably the best remaster the PS4 has gotten to date, so there’s little reason to complain…
The other PS Plus offering for the month is Goat Simulator by developer Double Eleven. This game is as weird as you can imagine as it involves hurling a goat (yes, a goat) at people and objects and seeing what happens, the game’s accurate physics taking care of the rest (no animals were actually harmed during the making of the game though).
If this sort of thing tickles you fancy you might be in for a treat, even if Goat Simulator isn’t one of the best reviewed PS4 games to date – its Metacritic score stands at 58, with a similarly low user score.
Actually, since Sony dropped PS3 and PS Vita games from its monthly PS Plus offerings last year, it has been pairing one great and not so great game as was the case last month, when it offered the superb Titanfall 2 together with the decidedly average Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Game.
Here’s hoping, then, that things improve when the PS5 hits the market and PS5 games start forming part of Sony’s PS Plus offering each month, even if January 2020’s games should still keep you busy for a while though.
