4. XCOM 2

This sequel to the great XCOM game of 2012 proved that developer Firaxis are still masters of turn-based gameplay, as XCOM 2 offered a superb strategic and tactical challenge throughout its many scenarios.

Set on a planet Earth taken over by the aliens, the moment to moment of the game was an exciting and tense affair, as players had to juggle priorities and decide whether to push for a satellite launch or focus on conducting research to improve their soldiers weapons. And it was easy to become emotionally attached to your deeply-customizable squad members, as losing that fully-upgraded sniper character on the battlefield after many hours of gameplay was certainly a big deal, making XCOM 2 one of the best experiences on PC this year without question.
