Even though Activision is still basking in the success of its latest Call of Duty game – reportedly the best-selling entry in the franchise in years – the US company has already announced what the next game in the long-running franchise will be.
The American publisher revealed earlier this month that another iteration of the Black Ops subseries is what Call of Duty fans can expect this fall. Also, unlike previous Call of Duty games which have usually hit shelves in November, Activision is targeting a mid-October release for Black Ops 4, which is coming out on October 12, 2018.
The last Black Ops game came out in 2015, and had a near-future setting. It had a convoluted story featuring soldiers with psychic abilities and even sentient robots…
It’s likely, though, that Activision will want to avoid dipping its toes in futuristic waters this time around taking into account how much fans hated Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s sci-fi setting. So, it’s probable a Black Ops 4 game could even revisit the original’s Cold War setting, taking into account last year’s Call of Duty: WWII return to the Second World War was such a triumph.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was also praised for its zombies mode, featuring an original story set in the 1940s, so hopefully the next Black Ops game will also excel in this regard.

Sadly, though, Activision has not revealed anything else about the game yet, and it’s keeping its cards close to its chest until May 17, 2018, which is the day of the game’s official worldwide reveal. We’ll have to wait until then to know more about this year’s Call of Duty game, so stay tuned to this website for more information regarding Activision’s latest game when it becomes available.
