1. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Game creators From Software and mastermind Hidetaka Miyazaki have garnered a reputation for making very hard games. But Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is their toughest game by far. The game is set in feudal Japan, where you control a ninja named Sekiro, who must fight all manner of tough human enemies and supernatural creatures in oppressive environments.
And everything has a hard edge in Sekiro, as combat feels as brutal as it would in real life, the clash of swords is electrifying, and the stakes in each fight feel so high. Tons of patience, skill and reflexes are needed to win the day here though. Beating a boss like Lady Butterfly might take you more than two dozen attempts due to her fast movement and damaging attacks. Others like a massive bull will shatter your nerves as you try to avoid the beast’s attacks, searching for an opening to strike. All in all, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the most difficult game ever made, but the sense of reward after beating what seemed like an invincible enemy is unparalleled though.
