With more than half of 2025 having gone by, many superb video games have already been released. The likes of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Bethesda’s Oblivion remaster have surely been enjoyed by gamers this year, amongst others.
And although more great games are still to see a release this year, some top video game releases have come out in 2025 to date. So without further ado, here follows a list of the top 5 video games of 2025 so far.
1. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
There is a moment in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, early in the game, in which the Emperor of Tamriel asks about your birthsign. I accidentally picked “the apprentice”, which grants a bonus to magic points (or “magicka” as these are referred to in the game) which wasn’t exactly the best match for my archer character… Nonetheless, I stuck to my choice, enjoying the mix of shooting arrows at enemies while also dealing death with magic every now and then.
And it’s clear that Bethesda’s game offers so many choices when it comes to creating a character, while you also get to visit all sorts of places in Cyrodiil, the fantasy province where the game is set. It all looks so much better in this remaster too, from the towns such as Chorrol, where you get to play private investigator and locate a stolen painting, to the mysterious Ayleid ruins, elven dungeons featuring danger and treasure… Also, the main quest features a character played by Sean Bean, and involves a demonic invasion, but the side content is the real meat of the game. Aside from the 4K ray traced graphics, this remaster also offers quality of life improvements, surely making it one of the top games of 2025 thus far.
