Fans of the Assassin’s Creed games had long waited to see an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan, and Ubisoft finally delivered in 2025. The French company has brought its famous video game series to Japan with style, in a game set in the 16th century Sengoku period of Japanese history. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is also one of the few games in the Assassin’s Creed series to feature a playable female protagonist, with gamers being able to take control of Naoe, a shinobi character who excels at stealth and silent killings…But it was Yazuke who got the most attention, though. The other playable character in the game, he’s a samurai of African origin – and the heavily built Yazuke is great for taking several enemies head on.

The game also has a weather system and seasons that impact the gameplay, and elaborate Japanese castles to infiltrate, plus a story which pits Naoe and Yazuke against the evil Templar Order seen in previous Assassin’s Creed games. What’s clear, though, is that Assassin’s Creed Shadows turned out to be one of the year’s top games to date no doubt.
