If one thing is clear, is that Polish developer CD Projekt RED is fond of pleasing their fanbase. Not only was The Witcher 3 one of the highest-rated games in years, but CD Projekt has continued to release content for the game, with new DLC adding new questlines (such as the entertaining “Fool’s Gold” story mission) and even a new outfit for sexy sorceress Triss.
And as CD Projekt announced before the game’s release date back in May 2015, the first of The Witcher 3’s planned expansions will be available for download on October 13 this year. Titled “Hearts of Stone”, this DLC sees Geralt battle with a bandit captain who wants to become immortal. Hearts of Stone also appears to focus on the weird side of The Witcher 3’s medieval fantasy world (a bit like the rather good “Shivering Isles” DLC for 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion), as according to CD Projekt, players will be “spending a night partying with a ghost and outsmarting the most bizarre creatures Geralt has ever faced”.
And as bizarre creatures go though, it seems that Geralt’s monster-hunting skills will be stretched to the max as he will have to deal with monstrosities like the oversized frog seen in the image below. But at least a new romance option and the appearance of the lovely Shani from the original Witcher game will offer players respite from all the bloody combat in the expansion.
Although it could be argued that a game as massive as The Witcher 3 doesn’t need any more story DLC, after all, only the most committed players are likely to have seen everything the core game has to offer. But still, those looking for a challenge (the new quests are aimed at players who have reached level 30 and will even challenge New Game+ players), and are looking to spend more time in Geralt’s medieval fantasy world will likely find this expansion worth picking up when it is released this October.
Note: Hearts of Stone will be available on October 13, 2015 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
