Not much was expected from director Duncan Jones’ Warcraft film, a video game movie based on the popular online role-playing game World of Warcraft, which has millions of fans worldwide. So you can’t blame director Jones for attempting to give fans of Blizzard’s game what they wanted to see, even if most movie critics failed to see what Warcraft was about and ravaged the movie in reviews.
This seems unfair, as while this Warcraft movie is no Lord of the Rings, it’s still a colourful and entertaining fantasy movie with some good performances by the likes of Travis Fimmel and Toby Kebbell, who plays orc chief Durotan. Actually, the CGI orcs are one of the highlights here as they look spectacular and fit in perfectly with their human counterparts, while the movie does feature some great battle sequences. And thanks to a superb run in China, this Warcraft film is now the top-grossing video game movie of all time too.
