Monster Hunter World is the latest instalment of the long-running Monster Hunter series, which is due for release early next year. Unlike earlier instalments, though, this one is not split into several zones separated by loading screens, but features one large open world with a central hub. You can craft new gear here (amongst other things) and also receive new missions from a mysterious group known as the “Research Commission”.

These, as you can imagine, involve hunting monsters, and the PGW 2017 trailer below showcases some of these beasts, which you’ll be going toe to toe with in the game. Each requires a different approach to succeed, while it’s also possible to take advantage of your surroundings and even lure monsters to fight each other, weakening them and making your task easier as a monster hunter.

In addition to its third-person solo gameplay, this also features co-op and online modes, plus PS4 players will be able to play as Horizon: Zero Dawn’s protagonist Aloy too, meaning this could no doubt end up being one of 2018’s top video game hits.

Release date: January 26, 2018. Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
