Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series has been many things to many people, but while millions of players have enjoyed these games’ open-world gameplay and richly detailed settings, the moral guardians have never stopped complaining about the series’ nihilistic violence, sexism and supposed glorification of violence…

And while several countries had been toying with the idea of banning these games, Thailand actually did so back in 2008 when a mentally unstable teenager shot a cab driver to death in a GTA-inspired crime, allegedly because he could not afford to play the game. But Thailand’s response did seem to be an overreaction, as it’s not like the millions of GTA players out there are turning into violent sociopaths by the minute…
