Could this be the next Assassin’s Creed game?

It’s clear that many Assassin’s Creed fans were not happy about the fact that Ubisoft decided not to release a major game in the series in 2016. But after Unity’s poor reception in 2014 and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s not so great sales in 2015, this was a move that no doubt made sense, even if fans of the franchise were still treated to the pretty decent Chronicles games last year, while Ubisoft also put out Assassin’s Creed Identity, a mobile iteration for Android and iOS devices that was well-received by fans and reviewers alike.

But still, there’s no doubt Assassin’s Creed fans are now looking forward to the next major entry in the series, which presumably will be hitting shelves this fall. And we may have already seen the first screenshot of this eagerly awaited Assassin’s Creed game, as a leaked image which surfaced on Reddit could be out first taste of Ubisoft’s new game in the long-running historically-themed series.

Looking at this image (see above), it’s clear the game’s setting is Egypt judging by the image’s footer text, while the clothing and armour the character in this screenshot is wearing suggests this Assassin’s Creed game surely takes place in ancient times. Also, the image might be showing the entrance to perhaps one of the Giza Pyramids, as a tomb icon can be seen in the image too.

So it’s likely that this upcoming game (which rumours say will be titled Assassin’s Creed Empire) could feature Prince of Persia-style tomb sections like the great Assassin’s Creed II did. This would no doubt be a great thing, as those were some of the best bits of Ubisoft’s 2009 classic. Plus there’s also the mouth-watering prospect of getting to meet historical characters like Cleopatra, if it’s actually the case that the game is actually set during the reign of the famous Egyptian queen…

Will the next Assassin’s Creed game let players climb the Giza Pyramids?

Of course, this screenshot might not actually belong to Ubisoft’s new Assassin’s Creed game, and the final product might be quite different from what current rumours are suggesting it will be, so it might be better to take this Reddit leak with a pinch of salt… But even if this next Assassin’s Creed game ends up being different to what gamers are currently expecting, here’s hoping this upcoming reboot does remind everyone of everything that made the Assassin’s Creed series great in the first place.
