Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of this year’s most eagerly awaited video game releases, and for good reason. Because not only does Guerrilla Games’ upcoming post-apocalyptic game look gorgeous, boasting highly detailed character models and landscapes, but it also looks that this will be an enormously enjoyable game to play judging by the gameplay video below.

The video shows how questing, crafting and combat will play out in the game, and also suggests that protagonist Aloy could be one of the most interesting characters we get to play as this year. Aloy, who’s modelled after Dutch actress Hannah Hoekstra and is voiced by Life is Strange actress Ashly Burch, certainly looks like she could be a memorable lead in this game, and a kick-ass heroine that could give Lara Croft a run for her money.

Other aspects of Horizon: Zero Dawn are also interesting, like the robot dinosaurs that populate the game’s world, of which there are 25 unique designs as developer Guerrilla Games’ told Eurogamer in an interview, and different strategies will be required to take these walking beasts down. Players can also scavenge these robotic creatures for parts and use them to craft weapon upgrades and the like, as seen in this gameplay video.

It remains to be seen, though, whether game creators Guerrilla Games will be able to deliver a great game with Horizon: Zero Dawn, as other high-profile games have turned out to be disappointments in the past, although Guerrilla has surely proved with past titles like Killzone 3 that it knows how to make a good video game. So hopefully Horizon: Zero Dawn will live up to the hype and deliver a great gaming experience when it comes out later this month.

Note: Horizon: Zero Dawn will be released on February 28, 2017. Available on PS4.
