It surely must be a hard thing to make and expansion for one of last year’s best games, and one that lives up to the high standards of the original game. This is something that CD Projekt Red certainly know well, as they’ve been busy labouring on Blood and Wine, an expansion for what many thought was last year’s best game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
But while The Witcher 3’s war-torn world was dark and depressing, the new region of Toussaint looks like something out of a fairy tale, with its towering castles, lush vegetation and vineyards. The residents of the region are shown living happy lives and enjoying live’s pleasures, but this being a Witcher game there is surely a dark secret hiding beneath Toussaint’s colourful veneer…
The Witcher games have always tackled mature themes and it looks like Blood and Wine will be as adult as anything the series has offered so far, featuring the violence and sex the Witcher games are famous for. Because despite the fairy tale atmosphere of Toussaint, protagonist Geralt will have to fight new fearsome creatures in this expansion as he unravels a murder mystery in the region, in what looks likely to be a thrilling conclusion to the superb Witcher series.
Note: The Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3 will be released on Tuesday, May 31. Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
