This year has been exciting for those looking to get hold of a new graphics card. This is because both Nvidia and AMD have both announced next-gen graphics cards, while Nvidia itself has already launched two cards in its GeForce RTX 40 line-up.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 are already available at retailers, but some PC gamers might have been put off by the high price these cards command – the RTX 4090 has a MSRP or manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $1,599 US dollars. Meanwhile, the RTX 4080 has a MSRP of $1,199 USD. Both cards are priced higher at most retailers, though.
So it makes sense that many PC gamers looking to upgrade their graphics card are waiting for cheaper next-gen options from Nvidia. One such option would be the company’s upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics card, which according to rumor will see a release early next year.
However, it seems the RTX 4070 Ti might not be as keenly priced as some gamers might be hoping for, despite it being a “70” series card. This is because Chinese outlet HSW has revealed that the card might be priced at about $1000 US dollars in China, as was recently covered on Wccftech.
This is certainly bad news for those expecting the upcoming RTX 4070 Ti not to hurt their wallets too much, although the high price might very well be due to Chinese regional tax as the outlet points out.
There’s also the possibility that Nvidia has decided to retain the $899 US dollar pricing of the cancelled GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB graphics card (the RTX 4070 Ti almost certainly being a rebadged version of it), and not drop it for the “70” series card.
The thing is, CEO Jensen Huang can afford to do this – his company has a commanding 88 % market share of the discrete GPU market according to the latest estimates, so Nvidia has some latitude for pricing its graphics cards higher.
Also, people proved that they were willing to pay higher (even four figure) prices for Nvidia graphics cards during the pandemic and cryptocurrency craze. Plus, Nvidia partners still have tons of stock of the older GeForce RTX 30 series cards to sell, so it’s clear prices for the current RTX 40 series cards might be on the high side for a while, then…
Waiting for the more affordable options such as the non-Ti RTX 4070 and, of course, the GeForce RTX 4060 could be a wise idea, but those looking to get hold of the RTX 4070 Ti should still wait for official news from Nvidia coming in early 2023 in order to find out what the card’s final MSRP will be.
