Last year sure proved that the video game movie curse is hard to break. This is because while movies like Assassin’s Creed and World of Warcraft were box office hits, they were still dissed by the critics.
So was the case of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, whose Rotten Tomatoes score stands at 33 %, which is poor by mainstream movie standards, although pretty decent for a video game flick. But despite not getting great reviews overall, Paul Anderson’s latest entry in the long-running zombie saga sure was a box office hit, making more than $300 million worldwide and joining the list of the all-time top-grossing video game movies.
And now fans of Resident Evil will be happy to know that the movie is finally available on DVD and Blu-ray. This release also features a host of extras that will be welcomed by those wanting to know more about the Resident Evil universe and the making of this last entry in the movie series.
These features include featurettes about the Hive, the female heroes of the film and another about the stunts and weaponry seen in The Final Chapter. Plus there’s also a director’s commentary of the movie’s key scenes and a sneak peek at the upcoming Resident Evil: Vendetta animated movie (for more detail on the extras included in the Blu-ray, see here).
So this film’s release will be good news for those looking forward to get hold of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter on Blu-ray or DVD. Also, fans the video games can also look forward to the remastered edition of 2012’s Resident Evil: Revelations, which is slated for release this fall.
