Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is getting a sequel, could launch this year

Star Wars fans who are into video games surely were delighted with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019.

A third-person game set in the Star Wars universe, the game put players in the shoes of a young Jedi named Cal Kestis, who fights the Empire and the evil Inquisitors who hunt him throughout the galaxy as he attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order.

The game had cool lightsaber battles, action sequences and a decent story and characters, and became a hit for video game company Electronic Arts. Actually, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sold more than 10 million copies, meaning that a sequel was surely on the cards.

And it was recently announced that EA’s 2019 game will indeed be getting a sequel, which will also be made by developer Respawn in collaboration with the good folk at Lucasfilm Games.

Speaking of Respawn, Lucasfilm Games vice president Douglas Reilly said the studio has “demonstrated excellence in telling epic Star Wars stories along with best-in-class gameplay across different genres and we are looking forward to bringing more amazing experiences to the galaxy far, far away”.

It is true that Respawn’s game was one of the best of 2019 (its high Metacritic scores are testament to that), but it was criticized for being formulaic and borrowing much from other blockbuster games such as Tomb Raider.

But still, the American studio, which is also behind other solid games such as Titanfall and its sequel, will surely want to deliver a special game knowing that millions of Star Wars fans the world over will be anxiously waiting for the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2.

And this may happen sooner than people think according to industry insider Jason Shreier who in a tweet (via comingsoon.net) said that the Jedi: Fallen Order sequel “has been in production for a while and should be out this year or next”.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launched in November 2019, so a fall 2022 release for its sequel makes sense. In 2019, though, it’s clear EA wanted to launch its Star Wars game close to the release of J.J. Abrams’ Rise of Skywalker movie, and without that pressure this year its possible that a Fallen Order sequel might be delayed until 2023.

Either way, it’s clear that this is an upcoming game that anyone who has an interest in video games or Star Wars will be looking forward to whatever year its released on, that’s for sure.
