4. The Last of Us Part II

With the Last of Us Part II, we have the exact opposite of Cyberpunk 2077: a major, AAA game which arrived without any noticeable bugs or issues, and with the high level of polish that players associate with a renowned studio like Naughty Dog. Yet both games got review bombed on Metacritic, with so many players expressing their anger with The Last of Us Part II via negative reviews on the review aggregator site.

Many players disliked The Last of Us Part II’s story right off the bat, as a much-loved character from the first game is killed (in a pretty brutal way too), a plot development which caused much controversy. Also, game creators Naughty Dog lied when they claimed that Ellie would be the only playable character in the game. Actually, you spend the other half of the game playing as Abby, a character that many people may have had trouble empathizing with. Also controversial were the game’s brutal violence and its grim post-apocalyptic world, a place where much of the violence seems to be directed at women, even if this Last of Us sequel is still one of the best games of the PS4 generation for sure.
