Blood and Wine is just an expansion for last year’s gaming sensation The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it is still exciting and substantial enough in its own right to be considered one of 2016’s best games. Actually, Blood and Wine is not only comparable in scope to the earlier The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings game (an incredible thing for a piece of DLC), but is also a great role-playing game in its own right.

Protagonist Geralt of Rivia not only gets to fight huge, terrifying monsters here that wouldn’t be out of place in a Dark Souls game, but also gets to interact with plenty of colourful characters in the land of Toussaint while solving Blood and Wine’s superb quests. And while this expansion is the Witcher’s last adventure, he at least gets to end his adventuring days on a high note, as Blood and Wine is clearly one of the best video game releases of 2016 so far.
