4. Horizon: Zero Dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn was one of many games at E3 2015 to feature a female protagonist, together with the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and others. And like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Horizon will only feature a female protagonist. And hopefully the games’ potential male audience is not put off by this – after all, protagonist Aloy would certainly count amongst the most attractive female video game characters to date, and judging by the trailer below, she certainly could teach Lara Croft a thing or two.

The game won the “Best Original Game” Game Critics award for E3 2015, and judging by the trailer, it certainly appears to be one of the most original games of recent years. This open-world game is made by developer Guerrilla Games (who are behind the Killzone franchise) and features robotic dinosaurs in a savage world in which various human tribes struggle to survive. And Horizon: Zero Dawn certainly looks promising enough to compete with other heavyweights like Uncharted 4 when it debuts next year.

Release date: Coming in 2016. Available on PS4.
