3. Tron (1982)
Tron was certainly a revolutionary film back in the early 80’s, with its great special effects, computer animation and visual style. And even though the movie looks dated by today’s standards, some of the movie’s scenes like the Light Cycle sequence (which was based on the classic video game Snake) are still exciting to watch.
This was first and foremost a visual spectacle, so the movie’s plot wasn’t so thrilling, though. It involved a video game creator (Jeff Bridges) attempting to get even with company rival Edward Dillinger (David Warner), with the two of them squaring off inside a supercomputer in a series of video game-style special effects sequences. Nonetheless, this was a ground-breaking film that is considered to be one of the sci-fi classics of the 80’s.
