Many consider this E.T. video game one of the worst games ever made, and also one of the most notorious video game flops of all time. Also, Atari vastly overestimated demand for the game during the 1982 holiday season, hoping the quality of Spielberg’s blockbuster film would lead to massive sales of the game. Sadly this wasn’t the case and millions of unsold cartridges of the game were famously dumped by Atari in a New Mexico landfill.

Regarding the game itself, E.T. lets you control the eponymous extra-terrestrial, attempting to collect pieces of a telephone while avoiding pits. Avoiding those pits was mostly an exercise in frustration, though. And the fact E.T.’s health bar would deplete continuously, forcing a time limit on players, made the game more of a chore to play than anything, making this the worst movie licensed video game of all time.
