While Skyrim had a mostly boring main quest that had players hunting dragons and being trained by a cult of old men in all things dragon related, it made up for it with a ton of magnificent side quests. You could join the do-gooder group known as the Companions and fight for the greater good, or become a member of the sinister guild of assassins known as the Dark Brotherhood and kill for coin…
The Witcher 3, on the other hand, has a superb main quest that sees protagonist Geralt travel all across Temeria, at first searching for his lover Yennefer, and encountering all sorts of dark and twisted personalities along the way. A big plus is how side quests in The Witcher 3 can have an impact on the main quest, although it is slightly disappointing that players are given so many quests that are way above their level early on in the game.
