4. Vertical stand & colors

One point of contention after Sony announced the new PS5 Slim is the vertical stand, or lack thereof… It seems Sony is now viewing this stand as an extra to be sold separately, an indeed it will do so at $29.99 US dollars starting this fall. So this is the price you’ll have to pay to let your new PS5 Slim look as cool as in the image above with the new metallic, circular stand.

Otherwise, you can risk balancing the console on its own or use the provided “kickstand” for stability in the horizontal position if that’s how you’d rather place the console.

Admittedly, the PS5 Slim does look cooler with the new stand in the vertical position, and it might look even better with Sony’s new console cover plates if the default white of the console is not your cup of tea. Actually, the console’s four cover panels are removable and can be replaced by colored ones (available in cobalt blue, sterling silver, volcanic red and black) Sony will make available early in 2024.
