Final Fantasy XIII had great production values, but this was mostly a linear adventure from beginning to end though.

Final Fantasy XIII was the first entry in the series to debut on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and had a pretty good story, engaging combat, and a rich setting and delightful cast of characters. Actually, the game’s settings – the floating continent of Cocoon and the underworld of Pulse – are some of the best realized and gorgeous ever seen in a game. Final Fantasy XIII’s characters were also memorable, and the cast also included series’ icons like pink-haired beauty Lightning.

Final Fantasy has been criticized due to its linearity though, as the game feels as if it’s on rails most of the time, lacking the open world exploration and mini-games to enjoy offered by earlier Final Fantasies. Also the game’s difficulty spikes, so-so dialog and lack of depth detracted from what otherwise was a fine entry in the series.
