4. Final Fantasy VI

With a great soundtrack and captivating story, Final Fantasy VI stands amongst the series’ best.

Final Fantasy VI was undoubtedly one of the biggest games ever released for the old Super Nintendo console. This old-school RPG was a revelation at the time due to its rich story, which was full of twists and surprises and even explored adult themes, and its involving combat and beautiful art, which made it quite a looker on the old 16 bit consoles of the time.

Of course, the game has now lost some of its visual sheen and its recent smartphone versions obviously don’t feature cutting edge graphics by today’s standards, although the great soundtrack by composer Nobuo Uematsu is still a highlight. The game’s story and gameplay have lost none of their appeal either, and protagonist Terra’s journey through the game’s fantasy world is still as captivating, clearly making this one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made.
