The top 10 most difficult games ever made

6. Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels

After the massive success of Super Mario Bros. Nintendo decided to make a sequel, titled Super Mario Bros. 2. The Japanese version of the game was insanely hard, though. Unlike the first Super Mario Bros., which had a gentle difficulty curve, Super Mario Bros. 2 was a frustrating experience from beginning to end. Pixel-perfect jumping was required to make progress, and players often had to deal with weather effects like wind, making getting past levels difficult. Enemies like the Goombas would attack relentlessly and in groups. Plus, the least is said of the poisoned mushrooms the better…

Super Mario Bros. 2 took a lot of frustration, memorization and repetition to get through then. So it’s no surprise that Nintendo of America was disgusted by the game’s difficulty and decided to release a reskinned version of the Doki Doki Panic game instead of Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan in the USA. The Japanese original later became available as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels on the SNES console though.
