The top 10 most difficult games ever made

3. Nioh

With Nioh, Koei Tecmo was looking to deliver a game which offered a similar level of challenge to the likes of Demon’s Souls. And the Japanese company certainly delivered. Set in Japan during the Sengoku period, the game has you facing bloodthirsty enemies as William Adams, a European samurai.

Of course, it’s not just human enemies you are up against in this brutally tough game, as there are also supernatural beings known as “the Yokai” to defeat. Like in Dark Souls, you can expect to die many times before being able to defeat the tougher Yokai, such as a demon you fight in the interior of a ship who uses a huge metal ball as a weapon. Also, managing your stamina – or “ki” as its known here – is critical. Actually, running out of stamina in front of the lowliest human enemy will result in you being cut to shreds… This is one of the hardest games made to date then, and one of the best examples of the “masocore” genre so many people love.
