7. Max Payne 3 ($105 million)

In this third Max Payne game, former cop Max Payne travels to the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo to act as bodyguard for a wealthy entrepreneur who is at the centre of a corruption scandal. Although the film noir atmosphere of previous Max Payne games was missing, the third person action was still fantastic, and the Matrix inspired slow motion shooting was great to experience.

And Rockstar spent big money on this Max Payne game, as a matter of fact it cost more than $100 million (£69 million) to develop and market. But sadly, despite being a very solid game overall, it is rumoured the game was something of a commercial flop. Despite selling more than 4 million copies it did not turn a profit for Rockstar, and the studio behind it had to close its doors.
