Tech giant Apple was at the centre of controversy last year when it decided to remove all games which showed the Confederate flag from the App Store, even some strategy games that displayed the flag in a historical context…. And now this year Apple also made the controversial decision of not allowing the video game The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth to be sold on its App Store due to it depicting “violence towards children”.

Rebirth is a two-dimensional action game with a retro feel, and its protagonist Isaac, while meant to be a young child, looks like any other video game character from the 80’s. Perhaps it was the game’s sinister story about a mother with violent ideas plus the game’s over the top artwork which shows Isaac being harassed by grotesque creatures that led Apple to ban the game from the App Store, even if this is a game that’s already being released on most consoles to date, including those of typically family-friendly Nintendo.
