10 Very Complicated Video Games
4. Prison Architect
This game by introversion software tasks players with building and running a private prison, which is a complex task for sure. And even the building process is pretty involved, as planning is required when placing facilities like kitchens, workshops and restrooms, and corresponding amenities like TVs. Hiring and setting guards on patrol routes is necessary to prevent nasty incidents like riots and escape attempts, and players even have to deal with contraband and disease outbreaks inside the prison.
It is even possible to track each prisoner individually during their stay in the prison, and building an economically successful prison that could house many inmates is a careful balancing act that requires checking on prisoner needs and having a trusty informant or two that can help avert future escape attempts. And even if Prison Architect isn’t to everyone’s taste, it is clear that this is one very detailed, although very complex, simulation video game.
