6. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
The Phantom Pain is the latest entry in the long-running Metal Gear series. As a matter of fact the series has been around since the late 80’s, and its high point is undoubtedly 1998’s Metal Gear Solid, which is considered one of the best games ever made. So this is a series with a high pedigree, and it makes sense that expectations for this game are sky-high.
And like previous games in the series, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be an action-adventure game, with emphasis on stealth. It is not about taking enemies head-on (no matter what a tough guy its eye-patch wearing protagonist Solid Snake is), but about being patient, finding the best angle of approach and dealing with enemies in a stealthy way. And for the first time in the series history, it will be a fully open-world game.
And the game is certainly looking good at this point, with its E3 trailer (see below) garnering praise from the likes of pop culture star director Guillermo del Toro.
Release date: September 1, 2015. Available on PS4, Xbox One, PC (Sep. 15), Xbox 360 and PS3. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is not yet rated by the ESRB in the U.S. and is rated PEGI-18 in the United Kingdom.
