As video games have become more mainstream, sex has become a part of more mature-oriented games, such as The Witcher series. And sometimes the portrayal of sex in games has stirred controversy. Maybe the censors thought a certain scene was too explicit or tasteless, and the media had a field day denouncing the way sex was portrayed in a certain game. Here follows a list of the top video game sex controversies.
10. Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition
Ninja Theory thought that Lilith’s words in this scene were too sexually suggestive.
The PS4 and Xbox One have seen quite a slew of remasters, and this Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition is definitely one of the best. It upgraded the game’s graphics to run in high definition, and while the game’s story is slightly juvenile, the great gameplay and cast of characters more than make up for it.
And speaking of characters, villain Mundus and his demon mistress Lilith are definitely quite the pair. She appears to be fond of plastic surgery and certainly could pass for an adult movie star. And at some point in the game, she and Mundus discuss their power fantasies, and Lilith tells him the nasty things he could do to the world once he has taken it over (“Nothing left but to grab it by the hair, bend it over and –“). But developer Ninja Theory thought that line was to sexually suggestive, and controversially removed it from the remaster. Maybe they overreacted considering that foul language has never killed anyone, but at least they made up for it with a ridiculous sex scene later in the game.
