11 cancelled video games no one will ever play

9. Fallout 3 (aka Van Buren)

Back in the early 2000s Fallout 3 was in development at Black Isle Studios, which was part of video game company Interplay. This is not Bethesda’s Fallout 3 game from 2008, but a different Fallout 3 which had been in development at Black Isle, and was codenamed Van Buren.

Nonetheless, the game began Bethesda-style, with the game’s protagonist in prison. Taking place in a post-apocalyptic US in the year 2253, it would have been possible to visit places like the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. Its plot would have involved the Brotherhood of Steel (a military order which appears in the Fallout games), and it would have let you play as a super mutant aside from a human character (a cool thing no doubt). This would have also featured settlement building like in Bethesda’s Fallout 4 too…

Van Buren was not to be though, but the graphics technology used in an earlier, also cancelled Fallout 3 at Interplay did make it to Bethesda’s Fallout 3 nonetheless.
