6. Doom
With this Doom reboot id Software dragged the much-revered franchise kicking and screaming into the 21st century, after the earlier Doom 3 had ended up being something of a disappointment. But thankfully this new iteration of the legendary series delivered everything that fans were hoping for as it boasted fantastic graphics, fast-paced action and the kind of gore players don’t usually see in first-person shooters anymore.
Actually Doom’s action is as violent as it gets, as players could blast the game’s demon enemies with an arsenal of weapons, from the classic shotgun to the devastating BFG, and also finish off opponents with “Glory Kills”, contextual finishers in which the game’s marine protagonist would smash or eviscerate the hapless demon (all to the tune of Doom’s rocking heavy metal soundtrack) making this Doom reboot one of 2016’s most exciting gaming experiences for sure.
