The Mortal Kombat series has been running strong for thirty years, so fans have been eagerly awaiting another entry in the series since Mortal Kombat 11 came out in 2019. And Mortal Kombat 1’s release is just around the corner, arriving on console and PC this summer. It brings back iconic franchise characters like Kitana, Johnny Cage and Shang Tsung. And, of course, Liu Kang, who took on Rayden’s mantle in the previous game and became “Fire God Liu Kang”, and is the protagonist of the trailer below.

You see, while this game is called Mortal Kombat 1, it continues the story of the previous entry in the series, so it’s not actually a remake of the original game. It’s interesting that Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios have chosen to reboot the franchise like this, and judging by the trailer below this looks to deliver more of what Mortal Kombat 11 offered: gruesome, violent and bloody fights and what appears to be another interesting story mode featuring the familiar Mortal Kombat cast when it arrives this fall.

Release date: September 29, 2023. Available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
